What is Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer is a form of Carcinoma, which is a type of cancer that forms in the skin or in the tissues that provide cover to the internal organs. There are several skin cancer types that can affect people and the most common skin cancer is the Basal cell carcinoma that accounts for most cases of the disease.

Cancer basically results from the dysfunction of the cells that make up the human organs including skin. Like all other variants of the disease, early detection allows skin cancer treatment to begin early.

When cancer develops in the skin it suffers from abnormal and uncontrolled growth of the cells. Exposure to the ultra-violet (UV) rays of the sun poses great danger of skin cancer. In a sun-rich country like Australia, risk of the fast-spreading melanoma cancer is real due to intense exposure to the UV rays of the sun.
